Skills In Demand (subclass 482) visa

Subclass 482 visa is designed to allow Australian employers to recruit workers to fill skilled vacancies in their business. This visa lets nominated workers to live and work in Australia for up to 4 years temporarily.

Your employer must sponsor you in one of three streams:

  • Core Skills stream
  • Specialist Skills stream
  • Labour Agreement stream.

Core Skills stream

Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • have an occupation that is on the relevant skills occupation list
  • must have the required skills and qualifications
  • meet at least 1 year relevant work experience requirement
  • meet skills assessment requirement, if applicable
  • meet English language requirement
  • must maintain adequate health cover
  • meet Public Interest Criteria
  • meet Special Return Criteria.

Specialist Skills stream

Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • have an occupation that is on the ANZSCO Major Groups 1, 2, 4, 5 or 6
  • must have the required skills and qualifications
  • meet at least 1 year relevant work experience requirement
  • meet skills assessment requirement, if applicable
  • meet English language requirement
  • must maintain adequate health cover
  • meet Public Interest Criteria
  • meet Special Return Criteria.

Labour Agreement stream

Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • the nominated occupation specified in the visa application is the subject of a labour agreement
  • must have suitable English language skills
  • meet at least 1 year relevant work experience requirement unless the labour agreement provides otherwise
  • must maintain adequate health cover
  • meet Public Interest Criteria
  • meet Special Return Criteria.

Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa

Subclass 186 visa is designed to allow Australian employers to recruit workers to fill skilled vacancies in their business. This visa lets nominated workers to live and work in Australia permanently.

Your employer must nominate you in one of three streams:

  • Temporary Residence Transition stream
  • Direct Entry stream
  • Labour Agreement stream.

Temporary Residence Transition stream

Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • have an employer who is willing to nominate you for permanent residency
  • your employer must have sponsored you to work full time on your subclass 457 or subclass 482 visa for at least 2 of the 3 years prior to nominating you for the subclass 186 visa
  • not hold certain regional visas for certain periods
  • must have the required skills and qualifications
  • meet any mandatory licensing, registration or professional membership requirements
  • meet age requirement
  • meet English language requirement
  • meet Public Interest Criteria
  • meet Special Return Criteria.

Direct Entry stream

Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • have an employer who is willing to nominate you for permanent residency
  • have an occupation that is on the relevant skills occupation list
  • meet skills assessment requirement
  • meet at least 3 years relevant work experience requirement
  • not hold certain regional visas for certain periods
  • must have the required skills and qualifications
  • meet any mandatory licensing, registration or professional membership requirements
  • meet age requirement
  • meet English language requirement
  • meet Public Interest Criteria
  • meet Special Return Criteria.

Labour Agreement stream

Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • meet any mandatory licensing, registration or professional membership requirements
  • meet age requirement unless the labour agreement provides otherwise

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187) visa

Subclass 187 visa is designed to allow Australian employers in regional Australia to recruit workers to fill skilled vacancies in their business. This visa lets nominated workers to live and work in Australia permanently.

Your employer must nominate you in one of two streams:

  • Temporary Residence Transition stream
  • Direct Entry stream

Temporary Residence Transition stream

Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • have an employer who is willing to nominate you for permanent residency
  • your employer must have sponsored you to work full-time on your subclass 457 or subclass 482 visa for at least 2 of the 3 years prior to nominating you for the subclass 187 visa
  • must have the required skills and qualifications
  • meet any mandatory licensing, registration or professional membership requirements
  • meet age requirement
  • meet English language requirement
  • meet Public Interest Criteria
  • meet Special Return Criteria.

Direct Entry stream

Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • have an employer who is willing to nominate you for permanent residency
  • have an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
  • meet skills assessment requirement
  • meet at least 3 years relevant work experience requirement
  • must have the required skills and qualifications
  • meet any mandatory licensing, registration or professional membership requirements
  • meet age requirement
  • meet English language requirement
  • meet Public Interest Criteria
  • meet Special Return Criteria.

Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) (subclass 400) visa

Subclass 400 visa is designed to allow you do short-term, highly specialised work in Australia. This visa is valid for up to 6 months from the date it is granted.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • have highly specialised skills, knowledge or experience that can help Australian business and can't reasonably be found in Australia
  • engage in non-ongoing work
  • have personal attributes or an employment background
  • demonstrate that there is need for you to be in Australia
  • have enough funds
  • meet Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirements
  • meet Public Interest Criteria
  • meet Special Return Criteria.

Temporary Work (International Relations) (subclass 403) visa

Subclass 403 visa is designed to facilitate the entry of applicants to work or undertake an activity in Australia that improve Australia’s international relations. You can stay in Australia temporarily.

You can choose one of five streams:

  • Government Agreement stream
  • Foreign Government Agency stream
  • Domestic Worker (Diplomatic or Consular) stream
  • Privileges and Immunities stream
  • Pacific Australia Labour Mobility stream.

Training (subclass 407) visa

Subclass 407 visa is designed to allow applicants to take part in workplace based training, including classroom based training, to improve their skills in Australia. This is temporary visa valid up to 2 years.

Nomination

There are 3 types of occupational training covered by this visa:

  • Occupational training required for registration
  • Occupational training to improve skills in an eligible occupation
  • Occupational training for capacity building overseas.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:

  • meet age requirement
  • be a genuine temporary entrant
  • meet English language requirement
  • must maintain adequate health cover
  • have adequate means to support
  • meet Public Interest Criteria
  • meet Special Return Criteria.

Temporary Activity (subclass 408) visa

Subclass 408 visa is designed to come to Australia to do specific types of work on a temporary basis. You can stay in Australia temporarily.

You can choose one of ten streams:

  • Australian Government Endorsed Events
  • Special Program
  • Religious Work
  • Research Activities
  • Invited for Other Social and Cultural Activity (Invited Participant)
  • Sporting Activities
  • Entertainment Activities
  • Superyacht Crew
  • Exchange Arrangements
  • Domestic Work for Executives.

Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) (subclass 188) visa

Subclass 188 visa is designed to facilitate the entry of applicants to own and manage a business in Australia temporarily. They must be nominated by an Australian State/Territory government agency or Austrade before being invited to apply for this visa.

You can choose one of five streams:

  • Business Innovation stream
  • Investor stream
  • Significant Investor stream
  • Premium Investor stream
  • Entrepreneur stream.

Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) (subclass 888) visa

Subclass 888 visa is designed to continue your business / investment / entrepreneurial activities in Australia permanently. You must have a current nomination from an Australian State/Territory government agency or Austrade before apply for this visa.

You can choose one of five streams:

  • Business Innovation stream
  • Investor stream
  • Significant Investor stream
  • Premium Investor stream
  • Entrepreneur stream.
